Baobab
children's home
LOCATION
The City of Arusha is famous for being the departure point
for safaris to the national parks and reserves in the north
of the country. It is also the headquarters of the International
Court for the Rwanda Genocide and its Clocktower is the
main and central roundabout, considered the center of Africa.
Moreover, this is a city with a large number of orphans
and street children, who survive is the worst of the conditions.
Baobab children's home is located in the
outskirts of the city, in the District of Makisoro and 12
kilometers from Arusha. This center is currently at the
first construction stage.
CURRENT OPERATIONS
Today, 30 children and teenagers from 2 to 17 years old
are under our care. Through Amigos de Tanzania, we provide
them with food, health care, clothing and education.
Some of the children have lost their mother and father and
some have lost one parent. Some others are not orphans but
live in a extreme poverty and therefore, the center is responsible
for their care.
Today, the center is in construction. This temporary situation
has led to the children to stay with a family member or
a family friend.

ACTION PLAN
Our objective
is to achieve the children’s care at all levels covering
food, health care, education and emotional care of all the
children and teenagers registered in the Baobab
children's home.
We will relocate
the children with a family whenever possible so they can
receive the warmth of a home. In this care, we will conduct
a thorough follow up of the children’s development.
For those cases in which relocation with a family is not
possible, they will have a home in the center that is being
constructed at the time.
We will continue
to pay special attention to those cases which situation
requires a prompt intervention on our behalf, being able
to offer them a home and our assistance. For such aim, we
need new sponsors. Only by finding new sponsors we will
be able take in more children.
THE NEW CENTER
The new center, besides functioning as an orphan’s
center, is meant to be a meeting place as well as a place
of reference for all the children registered with the Baobab
Children’s Home, living in the center or
at a home.
As short-term objective, we will work for the center to
be independent after becoming self-sufficient and self-administered.
Harvesting of staple foods, cereals, cattle raising...may
contribute to the center’s self-sufficiency. For such
advances and such an important task, we will have the support
of employees and volunteers.
