BAOBAB
CHILDREN'S HOME
LOCATION
|
 |
The city
of Arusha is widely known for being a point of reference
for the safaris to parks and reserves in the north
of the country. It is also where the International
Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda is located and its Clock
Tower in the center’s roundabout is considered
the center of Africa. However, it is also a city with
a high number of orphans and street children, who
survive in dreadful conditions.
Our children’s home Baobab
Children’s Home is located in the outskirts
of the city, in the district of Maksoro, 12 Km. from
downtown Arusha.

PRESENT
OPERATIONS OF THE CENTER
At the moment, we are in charge of 37 children and teenagers
ages 3 through 17. Our organization provides the children
with food, healthcare, clothing and education.
Some of the children are orphans, some others are missing
one parents, and some others, even though they are not orphans,
live with their families in extreme condition of poverty
and therefore, the children are under our care as guardians.
The children’s home is partially finished and 22 children
live in it. Although there is still much to be done so the
rest of the children can move in. The children, who are
not living at the center yet, live temporally relocated
in relative’s homes or with an acquaintance to the
family.

ACTION PLAN
Our
objective is to care for the children registered with the
Baobab Children’s Home at all levels
(nutrition, healthcare, education and emotional support).
If
possible, we will relocate the children with able families,
so they can receive the warmth of a home. In this case,
we will do as much as we can to keep a strict follow-up
of the children. For those whose relocation is not possible,
we will offer our children’s home for them to live
in and develop as people.
We
will continue to pay special attention to those cases which
situation requires a prompt intervention on our behalf,
being able to offer them a Home and our assistance. For
such aim, we need new sponsors. Only by finding new sponsors
we will be able take in more children.
With
the aim to help develop the area surrounding the Baobab
Children´s Home, amigos de Tanzania is sponsoring
the education of children from neighboring families with
little economic resources.
THE NEW CENTER
Besides being a children’s home, the new center was
built with the vision of becoming a meeting place and a
point of reference for all those children warded by Amigos
de Tanzania, regardless their residence.
Our objective is for the center to become self-sufficient
in a near future, being able to run itself autonomously.
Harvesting cereals and raising farm animals could contribute
to achieve this goal, counting with employees and volunteers
and their continuous assistance.
