WHAT WE DO
|
 |
|
 |
|
The association Amigos de Tanzania is
a NGO-D, which was founded with the wish to help those Tanzanian
children, who are not necessarily orphans, but live suffering
social and economic troubles. We extend our assistance to
their families and other people with little or no financial
resources through our projects.
Such assistance is channeled by cooperation for development,
solidarity, and the defense of human rights, always respecting
Tanzanian culture and laws. We believe that by doing so,
people warded by our association will receive the necessary
tools to fight the deep poverty they are drowning in at
the moment, and one day, they will be able to live their
lives independent and constructively in their own country.
The nature of our cooperation has the following parameters,
aiming to heal the important deficiencies in the basic needs
of any human being, through which be believe our vision
can be materialized, basing all of them on the defense of
the Universal Human Rights:
HEALTHCARE
Public healthcare in Tanzania is overpopulated,
so many patients have access to few doctors and they have
to pay for their own medication. In a country where deathly
diseases such as malaria and typhoid fever are common, it
is very important to have access to a hospital with laboratory
facilities and qualified staff. Through our healthcare assistance
not only the children warded by our association benefit,
but also their families, lifting the heavy load of hospital
bills from them and this way, preventing future sickness
and reducing long periods of school absenteeism. This measure
will contribute in the empowerment of the child’s
health, school performance and the family nucleus.
EDUCATION
Amigos de Tanzania strongly believes
that investing in the education of a child is crucial to
fight poverty. In a country with little public social resources
such as Tanzania, it is utmost important that all children
have access to quality education, forming them to be productive,
competitive and self-sufficient. Therefore, all children
warded by our association study in not public schools using
English as mandatory language.
SHELTER
Shelter is not only a right that we all have, but in the
case of children, the lack of it is in fact, a reason for
school success or failure and therefore, also personal.
Our assistance allows them to live in a place where they
can rest, relax and study in a proper environment, focusing
on their school work. Moreover, they have access to self-dependency
workshops and time to play, which they have right to as
children they are. Most of these children have been living
in overcrowded homes with little hygienic measures due to
the lack of water and electricity, homes without the necessary
space to rest and study.
NUTRITION
A balanced diet is the first step to a healthy life
where we can develop properly. However, it is also the biggest
challenge for many families with little or no financial
resources, as they are unable to provide food for their
children on a daily basis. Access to food for these families
is therefore, an utmost necessity our association is working
on covering.
EMOTIONAL
ASSISTANCE
Poverty produces many other problems, such as alcoholism,
prostitution, domestic and non-domestic violence and in
too many instances, abandonment and murder. Children living
with poor families tent to spend most of the day alone as
grownups are away from the home trying to find work. In
such conditions, it is impossible for a child to develop
with good emotional health, so our economic assistance is
always linked to an emotional one. Our association is actively
seeking psychological help so these children can grow up
happily and develop properly.
