Tanzania is one of the largest countries in the South Oriental Africa. Its 945.000 square kilometers includes the Zanzibar Archipelago, which can be found to the East of the country, in the Indian Ocean. Tanzania has many neighbors; to the North Kenya and Uganda can be found. To the West we find Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and to the South Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
There are about 40 million people living in Tanzania and ¼ live within city limits. Life expectancy is only 52.5 years.
Tanzania is widely known for being one of the most beautiful and wildest countries in Africa, which also suffers a cruel reality:
Poverty reaches a great portion of the population, mostly in the countryside and the city outskirts, keeping development from consolidating about the country. HIV-AIDS is to blame for much of this underdevelopment and suffering, as it is one of the greatest problems spreading rapidly today in Tanzania. A large number of children are affected by this disease as one of the parents will not be there for raising and educating them. In addition to this fact, the particularity of becoming orphan creates a greater danger for the children, as they are regarded as a heavy load by the rest of the family and therefore, many end up abandoned, having to face on their own physical and psychological abuse and future uncertainty.
